These are all pretty try-hard. I'm not opposed to a steampunk guitar in theory, but it needs to be done with a certain degree of elegance. Gluing gears to the body ain't gonna cut it.

I guess my skepticism is that anyone will look at that guitar and believe that it is better than anything, since it looks objectively terrible.

Don't even get me started... It's like NO ONE that is into steampunk actually understands the actual aesthetic and function of the time and the ideas behind it. The gears and steam have to do something, and victorian aesthetic is all about beauty and class.. even the gears on stuff in the 1800s had artistry and beauty.. glueing chinese made gears off eBay on your strat is the opposite of cutting it

warning: where a actual steampunk guitar should start :)*

That little cat bowl is pretty cool. I wonder if it makes a noticeable difference.

Well, seller said in the description the cat bowl resonator actually works. :idk: I can't imagine acoustically it's that effective, but when the guitar's played electrically, it probably alters the sound somewhat. :idk:

OK, so, this isn't a hack job per se, but what's going on with those screws in that bridge?

 Maybe they had a contract with a hardware store. Those blue foil pickups are cool.

I don't know, thinking of some of the whackadoodle christmas presents my mom has purchased for me because I play guitar I can see it happening.
My family is notoriously odd gift givers though

fortunately my wife just says "buy a pedal and I will wrap it for you"

I wouldn't pay a penny over $25,000. :idk: :|:

Even if I wanted a fender custom shop, which I don't, I would definitely just spend 5-10% of those prices for one that looks new.

50k wow!!!! For a guitar that to be it's truest self should be unplayable by most peoples standards

I wonder how many of those SRV strats people have bought? Are there dudes somewhere in the world who lock themselves in a secret chamber beneath their mansion, put on a silk kimono and big hat, dive face first into a pile of cocaine and then whip out that guitar and just revel in the authenticity of the experience?
