I bought a pack of Daddario 7 string flatwound strings, ditched the high E and put them on my Baritone. Cost 16 bucks instead of 65 bucks for a set of flats marketed for Baritones. B string ain't even floppy.

Sometimes I like floppy. :idk: :D

What scale length on that bari? Normal sized ball-end on the low B?

I need to get some flats soon, getting tired of blisters. I more or less play with the town all the way down as it is.

I use half rounds on all of my guitars, absolutely love them.

Put some chromes on my Throbber (oof!) having read through this and they are a revelation! Nice mid range sound without excess twang and they are lovely for chords and fingerpicking. The extra tension isn't as bad as I feared either, I'm not sure I see the point of roundwounds anymore...

i tried flats on an Epiphone Wildkat i used to have, but found them to be much too bassy for my tastes. i'm all about flats on the fretless Jazz Bass, though...that's exactly what i learned bass on in the Jazz Improvisation class at City College of San Francisco. i'd kind of like to try flats on a guitar again, but i don't think any of my current electrics would really be suitable.

I threw some 11-50 flats on my telecaster and I'm amazed I never thought of doing this before. So smooth, less high harmonics. Love it!

Nothing like flats on a tele.

strings by mail sells chromes individuals in larger than the norm gauges so I order a normal set and a .75 for my tele

Agreed.

I can already tell I need a heavier gauge string, at least for the bottoms. I've got this guitar set for Drop C and it's feeling a bit floppy. Gotta hit those heavier chords a bit softer than I typically do.

anyone got a rec for a set of roundwounds that are not too noisy to pick-slide on? I like the sound of rounds and the opportunity to make a little scrapey scrape, but the set I have now is way too noisy for some things.
