Mustang Machinehead Problems

so, about a year ago one of the plastic parts on my mustang machineheads broke off, and after tuning with a pliers for a while, I just threw on a spare I had until I could order a new one. originally I was planning on just getting a single replacement, but not the machinehead for the A string started slipping too and is also about to break. I would like to get a new set as I like the aesthetic, but I'm worried those too will eventually break off. anyone have a similar problem? I wouldn't mind getting all metal ones, but I'd like them to have the same F style so I don't have to redrill all the holes. suggestions? comments? concerns? help?

The plastic ones have their charm, I don't get why people have problems with the fender ones… maybe it's the glue…

haha, I don't necessarily mean beating up I guess, I just don't really take as good care of it as I should. but now its my only guitar, which is why I'm trying to fix everything. It started looking like a science experiment.

The Mustang-style plastic tuning pegs didn't last real well back in the day, the new ones I suspect aren't much different.

The ones on my MII Squier VM hold tune but...they maintain the cheap feel of the originals. Hold tune better than the vintage cheapies, that's for sure...but....plastic+tuner is a recipe for disaster.
