You guys ever play a guitar with those 2k pickups? What are they really like?
Mon Mar 16, 2015 6:45 pm
Played that very model and every Gretsch under the sun too - my local shop when I started playing (and wasn't an idiot and could do busywork) specialized in vintage stuff before the Internets (back when the vintage show circuit and word of mouth is how the "stars" found their instruments or got something replaced mid-tour).
I was never wowed by them, they I hate to say it, sounded like jazz guitar pickups. Not a whole lot different than the lawsuit Ibanezes or the Gibsons or Heritages etc.

I like the sound of those DeArmonds. Chet Atkins apparently didn't though. They are kinda jazzy. They have a little more character than most jazz guitar pickups.
The Bert Weedon model also came with regular Starfire pickups at some point too.
