Nice jam. Open d?
You ever play lap with a whole band? My dream is too have an all lap band. The line up would include a deep bass lap, Jp jones style minus the lights.... 8 string lapsteel bass, with onboard Great Destoyer....yup!

Here's a lap track I did using a Chandler Lap Steel and a Dunlop Lap Dawg tone bar. I can't remember exactly what tuning, but it was one I "made up".

The first thing that comes to my head when I hear this piece is "drunk Hawaiian" I love it when people get experimental on laps. Weird and fun.

Kaki King goddamn. She can work a delay and looper real good. Is she running one of those line 6 ones? Can't really see. I am totally inspired to get a looper now.
Definately liking this....but needs some fuzz.

So umm ressurecting Mec oldish thread for some advice....

I am making an eight string lap, I am using some nice recycled pine and a spruce top, it has a hollow neck and chambered body and a alumitone pickup in the neck position with a single volume and a push pull mud switch. Pics to come. What I need help with is tunnings.

Anybody have some experience with eighstringers or some interesting tunnings to slide with? Or what gauges I need to use?

Necrobump! I didn't see any other lap steel threads unless I missed 'em.

I'm going to make a lap steel soon, and I wanted to know what sort of design features you guys like in them. I've never played one before.

So far I know that it will be a poplar body, 30" scale. I have a few pickups around that could go in it, I was thinking maybe a Tele bridge pickup, but other suggestions are welcome. Really cheap, preferably

What do you think about single vs. dual pickups?
Also, general shape suggestions? I was leaning towards something like the Supro Comet shape. I'm gonna make it out of laminated 6" wide boards.

LAP-CRO-BUMP! :!!!:

You should play as many lap steels as you can so you know what design features YOU like about 'em. :poke:

I think two pickups is/are good. :)

Don't make it any weird shapes. :idk: Just somethin' basic. Supro Comet is a good place to start. :thumb:

Also, been lookin' for a good place to share this (maybe for when you're a little more skilled?):

You had to show me that Chank, didn't you? :thumb:

As for ordering laps made to your specs check out Ryan Rukavina. He can just about make you anything for a great price.

Or Jimmie Hudson. He made my 10 string plank (with one pickup).

Ryan may be the cheapest and best option for a six or eight string.
