The only bridge pickup i have ever liked "by itself" is the LB-1 on my Guild Starfire. Always have been disappointed by single coils, but I admit I haven't played many, so I am open to ideas. I m thinking about swapping the one on my strat.

I always love single coils and am not even that picky with them, I'm more picky with hums lol. But the best pickups I've played are the single coils in my Nelson. So good. I don't think he makes pickups that would fit in a strat though...

I went and bought a guitar today:

Really, really enjoy it so far. I've never really messed around with short scale guitars and my main guitar for the past few years has been a baritone, but as soon as I picked this one up, I was immediately in love. Also, it sounds great and it really plays well with my pedals.

Woooooooo

Looks great even if it's missing the jaguar bridge pickup for some bizarre reason

Yeah the bridge pickup is a weird choice. It's a lot hotter than the neck pickup so there's a noticable volume jump.

I am kind of planning on using this as a modding platform, so I might end up putting a standard jag pickup in there in the future.

Yeah! I'm a bigger fan of single bridge/humbucker neck. My jaguar was like that for ages because the bridge pickup is what they're all about imo :idk:

Weird that the pickups aren't even well balanced out of the factory that seems like a real oversight

Yeah I read/watched a bunch of reviews before buying it so I was prepared for unbalanced pickups. Doesn't really big me too much and I am planning mods so I can definitely live with it.

The other big complaint was the finish on the frets, but I don't find it bad at all really. And I could have just fixed that myself.

This is the old MIJ Aria Stratocaster that I bought off from a schoolmate's brother in 1999. I gave it to my father-in-law a few years later after I bought my mid-'80s Fender MIJ Stratocaster. Recently I received it back for a few days to check and clean it and to put new strings on it. I haven't seen it for over 15 years, so I took the chance to shoot a few pictures.

Image

The neck is D-shaped and too thick for me. Overall it doesn't play too well and I always disliked that it only has a three-position pickup switch.

Image

The vibrato system is a very odd one and I have never seen something like this in another guitar. I have never used it, because I didn't have the fitting vibrato arm back then. I disassembled it and it looks like you can only bend the strings up and not down. The string's ball ends don't leave much space for that, so you cannot overdo that.

Image

It seems like this model is from 1976. I don't know if these have increased in value. I really doubt that it has a real value. At least I wouldn't pay too much for this model. I've never been too lucky with it.

If you're interested, there's a whole thread on the various permutations of that Aria over at OSG: http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... 41&t=60667

Thanks a lot for that link! Some good information there, but sadly most of the older pictures aren't available anymore.

No, that's some kind of plastic, but very sturdy. My only complaint is that you cannot adjust the height of each saddle separately.

I put together a second guitar with a True Temperament neck. Body is Warmoth soloist, Bill/Becky Lawrence pickups, Hipshot tuners, Gotoh bridge:
