Swamp ash body
EGC 27.7" baritone conversion neck
Grover rotomatic tuners
EMG 85 @ 18V
Hardtail bridge
Vintage aluminum Yamaha hi-fi receiver knob

Need to widen the low string nut slot for my one giant string this afternoon but this far its really nice. Its been a minute since I've had a metalneck.

Didn't realize at first this was a Baritone! Even cooler,

What's the advantage of running the EMG at 18V?

Higher headroom if you play really hard. Plus I just wanted to try it out since all my other EMG guitars are at normal 9V.

Does it still sound like an aluminum neck with EMG’s or is it mostly for stability and such?

It has an aluminum neck so sure it sounds like an aluminum neck guitar. I think people have a lot of misconceptions about EMGs from not really playing them enough. They're just like any other pickup and don't negate everything else about the instrument.

Do you find a huge difference between EMG and passive pickups with your setup?

The one issue I always heard about was that they didn't play well with some fuzz pedals.

I use EMGs because I want the low impedance signal and bit of compression they have when feeding my octave split rig. EMGs sound like the whole rig is glued together nicely. Passive pickups don't work as well for the bass side of the rig.

Any fuzz that wants a high impedance direct connection wont get along with any active pickup or buffered system but I never use anything like that so active pickups work well for me.

Honestly that makes sense. I have an 85 in the bridge of a cheaper guitar and it mostly just sounds like an 85. I could imagine with your rig and how low you’re tuned the 18v mod would also be crucial.

Thanks for all the answers! It seems like this is the perfect setup for how you play and the gear you use.
Running an octave down mix I could see where you would need a tighter signal
