Sparkle Motion Question

Postby zeravla » Sun Nov 09, 2014 7:07 am

I've had a Sparkle Motion for a few months and I love it but I was noticing that I don't really hear any difference when I turn the Bias knob. At first I thought maybe it was too subtle a shift for me to hear but after getting a Mini I'm wondering if maybe something's wrong with mine. The Bias knob on the Mini has a major effect on the sound of the pedal. Should the Bias knob on the Sparkle Motion have a similar effect or is it supposed to be a subtle shift? Just wondering. I love it either way.

Nope, it's SUPER subtle. Had the same reaction when I got mine. Really there to help when you get a temperature change in the environment. If you listen very hard, you'll notice things will break up a little sooner. Honestly, I just mess with the other three. This is my always on pedal.

Rest your head, wary one! The effects of the bias are more drastic when chained with other peds, like dirt

yep! both of these statements are correct. you'll notice the sweep MUCH more if it's really hot out or you're in a hot rehearsal space, less so in colder weather. also, if you hit it with a hotter signal or another fuzz then there will be a more dramatic sweep as well. :thumb:

Yeah I deffy notice it more with the input maxed. I keep the bias at minimum and it gets semi kind of present sputteryness that is delicious

Do any of your sparkle motions make a lot of noise when you adjust the bias knob? I suspect that maybe the pot is dirty or something?

Yes, a little dirt on the twist with mine. I think it's the nature of the bias.

Yeah, that's just what happens with bias knobs. Nothing wrong with it, if anything it means that it is working properly.

exactly right. DC voltage across a potentiometer makes a whooshing sound.
