I really like making gear review videos

Wed Mar 21, 2012 2:08 pm

I was wondering if you guys might help me out.

I really like making gear review videos. And lately I have been obsessed with old Japanese stuff from the 60s. I've been buying gear left and right. I figured I can justify my obsessing if I make demo videos to go along with the stuff.

SO what I would like from ya'll is suggestions. What can I do to make them better? What would you like to see, hear from this stuff?

Here's 2 That I've done so far:

Here's what I am going to review next:

What would you like to see?

Maybe you could play a couple chords and let them ring out for a bit? :idk:

I don't have anything useful to contribute, but I really like the style of your demos and music vidjas so I hope you continue to upload 'em. The high quality audio and vidya is a big plus when you're looking around at gear.

I'm sorry, Lawrence, I've been meaning to respond to your request for help since you've posted this.

I love Japanese gear from the '60s and since I can't afford to buy anything right now, I encourage you to buy more stuff and make more gear review videos.

Your videos are well shot, well edited and they sound good. There's just the right balance of talking and playing. Nice use of text overlay (,but maybe you can make the text yellow? Also, stay away from scrolling text. I don't like it, it's too distracting). In the Ktone video you announce your set up, no need, just put that info in a text overlay. I think it's kind of superfluous when people declare their signal path in videos, a written explanation is usually sufficient. There's really not much to criticize in your vids, just try to keep 'em as interesting as possible. You're doing a great job so far. I'd like to see more.

What other gear've you gotten recently?

I'd like to see/hear more of the uncommon/odder stuff. The stuff you've reviewed so far is rather plain. Not that I dislike it, but I just like the weirder stuff better.

Thanks for the input. I agree with everything you suggested, except for the yellow text. Why yellow?

Awesome, thank you. That's what I'm talkin' about.

Nice find.

I used to watch a lot of foreign movies and yellow subtitles are easier to read.

I'm gonna try the yellow text next time.

Now I can kind of picture it as an aesthetic choice.

Nice demo. Cute lil' amp.

I've got a very similar Airline 62-9022A. (I guess it's more Champ-like than yours. It's got a 6V6.)

Though some people don't, I like the sound of 50L6 powered amps. (I've got a Supro Bantam, which does have a 50L6.) I love small amps.

Thanks brah. I've seen a couple of airlines with verb and trem on eBay. I might pull the trigger one day.

Why don't folks like 50L6 amps?

You're welcome. And you're also welcome to keep making awesome little videos like these.

I don't think 50L6s have much clean headroom. They get real squishy, real fast. Perfect, I think, for small amps like that, but not everyone likes that sound.

Squishy: That's a great way to describe it.

New Demo. This time for a Telestar.

Nice almost total use of asynchronous sound. As would be expected, guitar sounds plinky. I'm more interested in the amp.

That amp is AWESOME. I'm gonna do one soon. It's seriously one of my best finds. Pine Brand Amp. Made in Montreal of all places. Who knew the french made such awesome tube amps.
