DIY Shin Ei Companion Fuzz - help needed!

Post by abeswick »

hi,

i recently bought a pack to build a clone Shine Ei Companion Fuzz pedal from General Guitar Gadgets. My friend helped me solder the parts together, everything appears to be correct according to the various diagrams etc that were provided but it doesn't work. There is no power and we are unsure of the best way to check what may be going wrong.

i've taken some photo's, can anyone who has built one before spot anything that may be wrong? or if you have any tips then please let me know.

i'm sorry the photo's aren't the best!

Ahhh...I just finished mine like a week ago. The trannies gave me some trouble because they weren't on the bill of materials, so double check that they're in the right way, otherwise it cuts the signal.

And double check that you didn't wire F3 or V2 to that open whole on the pcb...

But the power supply looks right! Maybe there's a solder bridge somewhere? :idk:

That's my n00b advice as someone who's done those things.

I can't see shit. Lay everything flat and take sharp pictures close up. Take them panorama style if you have to.

I love the smell of solder in the morning.

Why are they three unfilled spots? I have built one on a GGG PCB before but not that one, one of their older ones which is a different layout.

I think there's actually 4 empty spots.

99% of my "not turning on" issues have something to do with improper grounds.

Maybe you could post a better picture of where the wires connect to the board?

You didn't get another 10uf capacitor did you? On mine I have on for C10, which is empty on yours.
