I've listened to it seven times now.
I really love it.

I mean, I've loved all their albums pretty much from the get go, except for chaosphere (I think the production put me off for some reason. Which is odd given that I kinda like the production). But I don't think the album sounds contrived anywhere, which at this stage in the game is pretty unbelievable. Production, flow, songwriting. It's all there. The mindfucks are there too, just not as obvious. It all feels a bit more visceral.

the picks that come with the cd are kind of funny. will anyone actually use those?

i dig the album. the vocals seem a bit too up-front & that calls attention to the lyrics a bit more than i'd like ("MonstroCity" is pretty dumb), but it's got the riffs & the grooves & the holdsworth-on-meth solos, so i like it!

I always meant to get into Meshuggah... is this as good a time as any?

listened to the new one today to close up shop after work.
Felt a bit underwhelmed at first, but turned it up anyway and quite soon went: "Oh My! This is good fun!" :animal:

You don't get "into" Meshuggah.
Meshuggah gets into you.

High on Fire was good live, Meshuggah was fucking AMAZING live. So good! I haven't enjoyed a concert that much in many years. They played a ton of amazing songs, some new, some older, a great mix! None of the really older stuff, which kind of disappointed me, but I can't expect that. They did play Bleed though, which is fucking killer live! The drums were thumping my chest so damn hard I couldn't believe it. Fantastic show and I'd love to see them again and again.

Yeah, I was wrong.

Listened to the new album and it's really good. I stand corrected.

I went and got drunk with my brother last night and brought over the Meshuggah album so he could check it out(he's going to the show that I have to miss):

So, as one does when you're drunk, I left the album there.
"Hey can you drop off the Meshuggah CD sometime today?"
"It's mine now."
