Conor Oberst appreciation thread (now w/ Desap. pedalboards)

Postby casecandy » Fri Nov 06, 2015 1:51 pm

Come all ye, let's talk about Conor Oberst.

My favourite songwriter ever since I heard Lifted in Grade 9.

The music has grown with me and whenever I feel all meh about music, I put him on, and it all comes rushing back to me.

Blots out the whole world, or illuminates, according to my mood and preference...

I don't wanna TL;DR it.

Love him, or hate him? Why?

My favourites:

I [believed] that lovers should be chained together
And thrown into a fire with their songs and letters
And left there to burn
Left there to burn in their arrogance...
Now I believe that lovers should be draped in flowers
And layed entwined together on a bed of clover
And left there to sleep
Left there to dream of their happiness

"Here's a goddam song for all you goddam people."

I got a letter from the army
So I think that I'll enlist
Now, I'm not brave or proud or nothin'
I just want to kill something!
Too bad nowadays you just point-and-click
Swing low, satellite, hot-white chariot

Daniel Johnson cover! Better than original. All my friends were vampires...

I'll bite.

This will always be my jam.

And I saw Desaparecidos last year and they brought it pretty hard. The first LP was awesome 10 years ago and holds up fairly well today.

I love Conor. One of our greatest living songwriters. He almost single-handedly saved music for me in the early 2000s.

You should see my trade thread:

I feel like every Conor Oberst album has one really good song on it and everything else is contrived garbage.

Noise Floor is hands down my favorite Conor Oberst-related record, at least from all of the ones I've heard thus far. It has all the sparse qualities I like to hear from singer-songwriters and a bunch of interesting sounds, and that "kinda fucked up but kinda cool" charm is all over it.

Motion Sickness will always forever be a favorite sad song.
& one of the few songs I can actually play on guitar.

It is the best one, I've heard them all.
The LP is better than the CD, it has five extra songs on it

If that is what I think it is, I've determined not to look in there. :whateva:

I bought the first couple of new 7"s, but never really got into them. Read Music/Speak Spanish is pretty much essential, though.

Someone needs to tell him about ILF. He's practically one of us already
