SHADE

A short collection of pieces built on mangled choirs and synthesisers that I created while composing for a future project. Outliers and Oddities.
Headphones are essential.

This is cool! Really dig the vibe, it sounds lovely. Is the plan for a longer form project?

Yo DOS man that's mad, what's the context with the piece? Is it part of a larger project (Guerrero stems?) or something?

Hey man, thank you. The plan is just to push myself a bit harder, I've been doing the same kinda stuff for a little while and I just wanna move along a bit. I'm composing for voice, bass clarinet, cello and assorted keys (I'll switch between organ, wurly, synths etc ad see what works best with the particular pieces) at the moment and I'm saving money to pay performers and waiting for a friend to finish renovating his studio before I start laying it all down. The tracks above were just experiments with the processes I'm going to be using to manipulate the recordings and trying to get my workflow as efficient as possible to minimise time in the studio (and therefore cost) later on.

I think so. So Tommy Guerero (who is rad and you should check him out: https://tommyguerrero.bandcamp.com/ ) put out this record: http://dms.fm/composer_series_volumes/4
Which I found at my local record store for like $7, and is "pre-cleared for all uses", so much so that the third CD is the stems of the first two cd's worth of material (which are otherwise unreleased, so you're not stealing anything from one of his actual records, etc.).

So this is like the first step in poking at making a whole record from that material, I think. At which point I'll shake in my boots b/c I'll have to get a hold of one of the Bones Brigade and be like "hey dude I used these things and I feel like ethically I should tell you" before I hide behind my desk or something.

Holy shit, what an interesting fella that's rad as hell. And he seems super chill (plus he's EXACTYLY, to the day, my dad's age) and this is what they are for so I reckon he'd love it.

Back when my band was a Guitar/Drums duo, we recorded a bunch of short things for a tribute to The Gerogreigegege that never came out.

I forgot about it for a few years and recently found the DAW project.

We have a bass player now and I just sent him the whole thing. He overdubbed all over it, including pauses between takes.

I think I was using an Uglyface on all of this, on guitar.

I'm sure nobody here will be interested but yesterday I found my high school band's Myspace!! I got a real kick out of it because of nostalgia and also appreciation of the "throw in whatever" spirit we worked with. If you care to hear to what I was getting up to musically and my lack of skill at recording age 16-18 have a listen!

Mostly dumb rock/pop with some flashes of what I think are really good ideas. Probably nobody else does. I played bass on all tracks, guitar on most and did backing vocals.

Not exactly ilf standard fare...
