Phone based synthing

Postby Iommic Pope » Wed Apr 22, 2015 11:32 pm

OK, to shorten the long, I'm up for a new phone.
Weighing up iPhone vs Android.
Want Animoog. Don't necesarily want apple.

Anything on Droid that stands up to Animoog, or even supercedes it?
Other even betterer things to do with your phone also appreciated (keep it musical. I don't care about your dick pics.).

Phone droners, get at me!

NOPE. I got an ipad solely becasue Android is terrible with music apps. But if you're insisting on using android, there's only Caustic 3 and Oscilab to note. I think Fruityloops is out on android, but I'm not entirely sure.

OH WAIT, there's also nanoloop, if you're into nintendoops.

Hmmmm. Dang.

Thanks man.

Although, Nintendo sounds.....

Edit: also, anyone running these programs into pedals (via maybe an fx loop on a mixer or something)?
Do the pedals take the output ok?

I'm trying to justify a Rainbow Machine here..... :picard:

But also :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: if it works.

Mind you, all of the android apps are ports of iOS apps. There's A LOT of synths and effects and music toys with iOS.

I'm pretty sure with all of the crazy iOS effect apps you won't need to plug it in to anything. :idk:

(also, ever since the CT5, I can't justify ever getting an RM. )

Well, actually. After posting that last thing, I realized that you're specifying phone. There's a lot less going on with music apps on the iPhone, and Android is a better system overall (imho).

Android phone apps I use for music:
Caustic 3
Chord!
Oscilab
Nanoloop

Look those up on youtube, I'm sure a more regular iPhone user can chime in for recommended stuff for their side.

Yeah I've been sussing some, like the omnichord apps. (Polychord and Chordion on iOS).
Yeah the reason I suggested pedals was to take the strain off of the phone and give me parameters to tweek outside of it (I still need knobs to touch, TWSS).
CT5 is also on the list.
As is bitquest.

Just layer upon layer of processing.

iPhone in front at the moment due to the sheer amount of apps that appeal to my (vocoders) etc, that seem to have an easy interface.

Get an IPhone/Pad and Jam Synth with the IRig Pro...

Long winded demo but...

It has a Rainbow...

Get Audiobus first and then get whatever apps are compatible... You can run apps through apps...

I've played Jam Synth through pedals and it was awesome, sounds sick on 2x15...

Ah ok, I didn't know about Audiobus and that chaining ability.
That's pretty rad.

If there is an option to get drom (or dr om, not sure which it's called) for android you should. It's 100% entertaining. It's a dual oscillating synth app with 3 versions to use and some filter/mix options. It has saved me hundreds a few times because I can get my fix just enough through it to not buy a drone commander or something.

Yes Drom is really good and so is Noisemusick, their other app... They aren't Audiobus compatible but I hope they are soon... I've run them through pedals no problem...

IOS beats android hands-down for music apps. A lot of the best ones are only on iPad, but iPhone has quite a bit itself. I have an iPhone 4S and a few dozen little noisemaker and keyboard apps. I mostly use it for drones, ambiance, minimal loops, or weird generative & stochastic music.

Drones: Air, Aura, Buddha Machine, Droneo, Oramics, Virtual ANS, iMasic
Loops: TNR-i, Reactable, Yellofier, Figure, Portable Dandy, FL Studio, iKaossilator , Trope
Generative: iLooch, Quincy, RunXT Life, Otomata
Effects: Filtatron, Samvada, Attractor, ADelay2, GrainProc
Synthesizers: Animoog, Caustic, DXi, Mellotron XL, MiniMapper, MorphWiz, Organ+, Mitosynth, Modular, SampleTank, Vogel CMI, Yumi:Synth

I'll report back once I've got a verdict on a decent plan.
All of these seem like pretty rad apps.

I have a whole setup on my iPad. I weighed both and went apple because of the app availability.

I ordered the iPhone for the sheer amount of options.
Gonna get here next week.

Better start budgeting for a mini rig.
