How do I use two amps at once?

Postby AstralFeedbackM » Mon Apr 13, 2015 1:14 am

So I have been looking this up online and of course lots of information on it, but I don't no what gear people are talking about. What I need from you guys is details. Like can you send me the links for each piece of gear I need to make this happen. I'm planning on buying a second tube amp or solid state (can't decide). I'll tell you what I want to do so you guys know. I don't think I want to have this set up so that I can choose one amp over the other via foot switch. I want it to have both amps playing at the same time to give a bigger sound to my set up. I want my guitar going to my pedal board, (then I'm guessing it's some kind of pedal or box) to both amps. Explain the easiest way possible and please give me links to the items I need. As always thanks guys and girls. :thumb:

ABY box or a stereo effect (delay, chorus and reverb are most common).

Things to keep in mind is that ground loop noise and phase cancellation become concerns when using two or more amps.

If it's an old, unmodified Fender, it has a ground switch in the back. Flip it.

Presto, solved.

Just use anything with two outs.

Stereo effect to test, if that works, stop spending money.

Ah, I haven't used a Champ in a good 20 years now.

I'd just flip the plug at that point (it won't have a grounded side).

this is true, but if it isn't caught in time it will blow out the power tubes in your other amp though.. :grumpy:

They're Champs, they eventually blow out like pros.

The most glorious gain I have ever witnessed was as the 6V6 blew out the side and transformer melted down mid-set on one of mine.

If it wasn't short-term and $300 a pop, I'd figure out how to recreate it.

unless you need to switch one of the amps off, i would suggest putting a stereo chorus pedal last in your chain. or a stereo tremolo/pan, delay, or slicer for more extreme effects. i've used a double amp setup for ages and there's no going back.

If you don't have a stereo effect that you dig a simple y-split cable could probably work. Otherwise there are cheap stereo pedals that could do the job easily :)

Thanks for the link but please what all do I need. I'm getting lost by people saying use this, or this, or this, and this. I don't know what I would use this adapter here for? One of the amps, a effect pedal?
