^Another vote for these ones right here! Used to have a WS, sold it for the Z1. Complex ambient textures is what they excel at. Also, Yamaha SY-22, SY-35, and TG-33 (all basically the same thing) are good on the cheap. You can blend 4 sounds together on the joystick.

But to be honest, it's more about creative programming, and the right effects. With those, just about any synth will do.

I love Korg and Roland, but especially the Roland Juno 106 or Juno 60 and the Korg Poly 61(M), Polysix or Mono/Poly...
good deals with: the_brow, phantasmagorovich, alexsga, DarkAxel, goroth, The Wood Wizard, Tendollarcat, vbps, monkeydancer, intothegroove, Brobee

I want a Juno 60 so badly. Unfortunately prices are through the roof on them now.

They're getting quite hyped up, as do the Korg Polysix and Mono/Poly but you can still get a Roland Juno 106 and a Korg Poly61(M) for a decent price I think and they're pretty great as well...
What about those Oberheims, are they also expensive in the US?
Unfortunately there's still so few new and affordable analog polysynth contenders on the market yet...

I blame Oneohtrix Point Never... It's the 106 with and arp and wood sides... Look for that 106S with speakers cause they usually mo cheaper...

Casio CZ-101 and Roland SH-32 do it for me too...
