how do you get a sound like that? almost reminds me of a toy drum I played with in kindergarten

to me it sounds like an older 22x14/22x16 kick drum... maybe even a 20 for good measure. they don't seem to have as much "boom" as they do more of a "thud"

absolutely. sometimes they come up cheap on CL and you could retrofit spurs on it if you wanted to play it with a kick pedal. or just put two cement blocks on either side!

make sure it's not stuffed with anything. You could put a fabric strip across the front (and behind the hoop, like a part of the head) to dampen some of the resonance

sounds like a kick with the front head off or with the front head kinda loose and not alot of muting

with a mic just thrown out the front of the kit
