Ha, Angrygoldfish.. I remember your board for the last couple of years at hcfx, it's getting better and better.

Any good uses for the Deluxe Pirate?

You can just use the delay side as a bright, lo-fi delay with sweet modulation and insane pitch shifting, or you can use it as a sci-fi clangy noise generator with the delay time set to minimun and the mix knob at a particular point, or you can use it as a really smooth and vintage tape warble effect in real-time. The delay tones are nothing special. It's the modulation that makes it special. And the ability to turn the mix knob almost all the way wet allows for borderline real-time chorus and vibrato tones. There is a really, really small delay, but that actually adds to the character of it; kinda like the EQD Rainbow Machine or Organizer and their tracking controls.

excane: the circuit path is in a comment above you. It's pretty straightforward, going from right to left and up to the Goatkeeper, and then right to left again with the modulation and time-based effects in the loop of my amp.

Cheers. I liked that square wave kind of modulation I hear on the Deluxe Pirate demos, but feels like it provides hours of tweaking and I would get lost trying to remember settings with these small knobs.

For the real-time chorus/vibrato sounds, actually very little. You can't get that seasick warble unless you use the modulation on the tails of the delay, in which case the pitch shifting is then not in real-time but very intense. It's the only qualm I have with this unit. Still, I rarely ever use that kind of range and depth, so it doesn't bother me that much and it shouldn't deter you from getting one unless that is your only real goal, in which case you should get something like the Sepukku or Diamond.

It's incredibly easy to dial in. There are three main tones, and those three main tones are really easy to remember. It took about half an hour to learn how to use the pedal. Now I'm a master at it. I was extremely surprised at how user-friendly it is. I didn't get along with the Whetstone phaser because I thought it had clumsy controls, but this, albeit not a phaser, is very intuitive considering.

I've got a regular pitch pirate and it can swing around 1,5 octaves. Given the nature of how the pitch shift is created there is always going to be a slight delay, which is noticeable the more wet mix you have. It means you can't really play faster note changes in time, but anything that you hold out will be ok. I haven't timed the delay when 100% wet between hitting the note and getting the shifted note but I guess it'd be a couple of tenths of a second.
