are bus board power supplies the equivalent of a one spot daisy chain? I read to avoid those but don't understand why. I'm a long ways off right now but I want to diy a case to go along with a mother 32. been looking at some modules but the power part is confusing me

I found this whole series pretty helpful, but this ep in particular answered a lot of power / nuts + bolts questions.

Those ZVEX modules are pretty awesome sounding. I feel like I can cover a lot of the Lofi Junky sounds with my current setup, though. The Fuzz Factory is sweet; I've always been tempted by CV-able fuzz/distortion. I think if/when I pull the trigger on something like that I'll still have to go with the Great Destroyer euro module due to my sheer love for the pedal

thanks for that! I meant to say flying bus boards initially. is there any real con to those besides being 'untidy' ? like, are they prone to ground hum or anything?

Can't say I know the answer to that one for sure, but the only real drawback I got from that vid was that they can get a little untidy / unwieldy.

Same here. 0 issues with a uZeus.
Other than the fact that it's a mess inside my case and it takes up valuable hp.

Flying bus are annoying because they take more space underneath the modules and depending on the case can make changing modules' positions quite a pain in the ass.
Something like a 4ms bus stick is typically nicer if you can connect it to your power supply.

Beyond that, only some supplies like the Intellijel one (with star grounding, for example) really have an advantage over usual board buses/flying buses.

Convenience is an important factor though, worth considering.

Look into the Trogotronic power supply for DIY cases. It's about the best value around for sheer power, reliability, and super cheap expandability. 15 slots per board, and you can add boards as needed, like if you eventually want to move it into a bigger case, without ever needing to add any more power. It also lets you run juice guzzlers like Roland and Metasonix with no worries. I still play it safe and use every extra power supply that comes with a module, though. I'm currently up to 6 modules that have their own adapters. :wha?:

I didn't know there were any modules with their own power adaptors

What is everyones favorite filter type? I've been mulling over what to build filter wise for a while now since I want some different flavors from very trusty Korgasmatron II. I currently have a Timo SSM2204 that I'm about to build (the damn IC for that is $35 now, hope I didn't get a fake), but am looking for other suggestions that aren't MS-20 based. Planning on building a MI Ripples to test that at the least.

MS-filter is best filter.

Have you looked into Formant filters ala the grendel?

4 Roland FX, 2 Trogotronics (m277 and m679). Also Mother 32. The Trogs still have to be plugged into the busboard, the adapters just make them bypass the main +12v rail.

I can cover a lot of the lofi junky stuff too, but I still want it for the awesome chorus sounds and CV controls. The waveform blending feature is fucking awesome. I also love that the fuzz factory has the db switch - just like the plague bearer. Ideally I want one stereo delay/reverb/grainfreezything for with each fuzz/distortion/preamp, so on the back burner I'm eyeing DPLR, Dub Jr. II, T-Rackonizer, Clouds, Spectre, Black Hole, Erbe, Verbtronic, black Doepfer, etc. Rainmaker and Demora are both great, but together only cover about a third of my full dream level ambience needs.

I really only know of the grendel one, but it's so damn big compared to other filters so I've never actually tried it out.
