Amp Help

Postby Bassboar » Mon Oct 08, 2012 9:47 pm

Hey guys, I just picked up an old Traynor Monoblock II.
It sounds immense, but there is problem with it.
When the volume dips below a certain volume, it sounds fuzzy and buzzy.
It only happens when the signal gets weaker when I play.
What's going on here?

Are you talking about when you turn the volume down on the amp or when the signal coming from your bass is lower?

yea, sounds like it could be from a dirty or "cold" input jack or pot?

What do you mean by a cold input jack, I've never heard of that term.

Yea I figured that would communicate poorly. I just know that when an input jack gets a cold solder joint it can do weird break up stuff.

I'm just trying to figure out if it's something serious or not.
I think you guys are right with the a cold or dirty jack/pot.

Maybe try cleaning the input with a q tip and rubbing alcohol. That worked for my guitars input.

another way to check is to apply some resistance on your cable when it's in the jack, (not much because you don't want to damage it further) but if it creates more of a connection and kills the buzzing/dirt than that's what it is, just sort of bend it enough to where if the connection was bad it would somewhat compensate via the help of your muscles.
