What do you think is the best bulk instrument cable and why? Reco sells Canare, Gepco, Gotham, Mogami and Redco.

Any of the good ones will probably be basically the same.

I use Canare, just because it came in red. ... and my main guitar cable is a Canare microphone cable because it came in purple.

I've been wanting to try the guitar cable here, 'cause it's so much cheaper:

Bought a buncho mogami a while back, really pleased with the results over the old shitty no-name GC brand.
Can't really compare it to the others listed.

Got some cheap lavas from that MF BOGO+15%off sale, we'll see if they can beat mogami.
There are some that call me...morningstaru?

Say for instance my Monster cable gets snipped by an asshole who cannot look at the right chord before he cuts it......how would I go about re-soldering it to the jack? Making a nw connection.

I dunno that you can resolder a Monster cable to the jack. I think they're mostly molded on.

But, you can pretty easily get a different jack. Then you just do it like any other cable. Just strip the outer jacket, pick apart the shield and twist it, then strip the inner part, then solder the wires.

... ok, so it's not quite that simple. I'm sure there's lots of info available. Mayhaps I should do a DIY cable thread?

I went through this myself a month or two ago, i went with lava ELC and im extremely pleased, i got some canare gs-6 too and its really thin, the mogami and lava are alot thicker and more durable IMO but they all sound relatively close, waaaaayyy better than monster or cheap generic cable.

I have the metal gold jacks that unscrew. I think I could fix it! Mind giving me a detailed run through?

I dunno exactly what sorta plug you have, but I gave this a look through and it seems reasonably sound:

http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-Cu ... /?ALLSTEPS

He was overzealous with the heat shrink. That first bit that goes over the whole thing is really all you need. If you have the kinda plug that clamps the wire down, you don't need any heatshrink at all (Many would disagree, but they're wrong). His soldering was a bit sloppy as well. He should have used a larger tip so he could tin the wires faster, but sometimes you gotta make do with what you got, and the way he did it really won't cause any problems.
