Clone Building

Postby misc1600 » Sun Jul 31, 2011 8:50 pm

Thinking about having a local guy build me a clone of the Fuzz Factory. He sent me pics of his work. The guts look real good and vary PRO. Besides sound clips, what else should I be looking/asking for?

Bombard him with useless questions about doing mods but don't give any real clues about what you want done or what kind of sound you want.

Ask for a "mojo" version. Or if he can make an analog bitcrusher, or analog reverse delay. Clean blend a must, regardless of pedal choice.

If the work looks clean it's probably a safe bet.
If he's local he'd probably let you try it out first or try out other stuff he's built.
There are a few folks here that could build you one too.

StupidDream88(Aaron) and LaoWiz(Richard) are two of my fave builders ever! They both post here and have excellent build quality. Aaron can make you anything really and has a really nice and clean approach. Lao is who I go to when I want destruction. He can also build just about anything. Plus he has the best enclosures around! I am sure either of them could build you a Fuzz Factory clone.

^ Aaron had a Fuzz Factory clone for sale a couple weeks ago. If you don't like the way the local guy's pedal sounds, I'd suggest PMing him too.

A guy in my bassists band built him an awesome phaser, so I emailed him to build me a really simple fuzz I could use on guitar or bass - it was a clean build and he's an engineering major at a university here so I figured what the hell - I think he's charging me like 60 bucks? It's more a test than anything else, if this goes well I'll have him build me a rangemaster clone......
